I have been insanely busy at work. That and small projects at home. But I got me a long break today, now that I am caught-up. I post the rest of my reviews to the horrorfest below, even though it is late. I give an update soon.
Mulberry Street - Set in an apartment building, that has just told all the tenants that will be evicted, in Brooklyn. There is a disease about to spread. It is unknown how this disease started but what is known is that it is spread through rat bites. And the rats of Brooklyn have become extremely agitated. This disease turn people into rat people. Yes, rat people. Now, that sound completely stupid for a horror film; however, it was really well done for having a stupid plot. It was made similar to 28 days later. It is like a zombie infestation only they are not dead, they're just rat people. But seriously it was really good. I would say it stands a chance against 28 day later, it won't win (cause to many ladies think the guy in 28 days later is hot), but it stands a chance.
Rating: 3 raptors - I was edge of my seat for a few moments.
Nightmare Man - This is another T&A film only this one was corny. Decently shot, good emotion, scary at parts, but when the end came, dear gawd, really?...I mean, really? A woman purchases a fertility mask from Africa. Whether it is a fertility mask or not is never made clear, but it is a mask with horns, and a scary-ish face. Well, she begins to have nightmare about a masked man trying to kill her or rape her or whatever. She believes she has a evil entity inside her and her pills keep the demon at bay but on her way to commit herself she encounters an identical masked man trying to kill her. She runs through the woods, she gets hurt. She comes across a party of 20-somethings have a truth or dare party. She sounds crazy saying the demon got out and she needs her pills (she dropped them in the woods). Anyway, most everyone dies. The killer was hired by her husband who was cheating on her (which never came up, I mean not a hint of infidelity). She turns into this supposed demon inside her, kills everybody else except one girl who manages to kill her. The survivor is possessed and needs pills now. She commits herself and the doctors decide to stop her medication because she is doing better. Almost instantly her transforms into the demon...THE END. Aside from the naked ladies, it was crap. Seriously all three days I went, the first film of the day was crap. I had to suffer through an hour and a half of crap before the good stuff. Anyway.
Rating: Ex-raptor feeding grounds - the naked girls weren't really attractive, but their boobs were.
Tooth and Nail - I had high expectations for this film. And even though it didn't meet them It still was really great. Now, again, I am bias. This film had my favorite actress from year's horrorfest. Rachel Miner from Penny Dreadful. Unfortunately, not her best role this time. She did well in the beginning but she just doesn't do evil very well. Which is odd, she has a look about her that screams evil, its all in the eyebrows. Anyway, and Rider Strong comes back for another horrorfest film in the same year; nice. The film is about a post apocalyptic world not to far off. No war, no disease, no famine, not global warming or any other economic disaster; we just ran out of gas. Most of the American population has traveled south where it is mentioned that it is a constant war zone down there for survival. A small band of about 12 people decided to stay in a hospital in Philadelphia. And, for the adversity, some humans have resorted to cannibalism for food. Leading the cannibals are 2 very good villain actors; Michael Madsen and Vinnie Jones. Also, apparently the world has gotten so bad that everybody has changed their name to a nomadic survival name; i.e. Jackal, Darwin, Viper, etc. And leading the host of survivors in the hospital is no other than the leader of the nerds from revenge of the nerds Robert Carradine. I liked this film. I had a fun time. As for a film though, it was a bit below par. The script was terrible; the acting was good, but with bad lines; very little action, more of a drama/suspense than a horror film.
Rating: 3 raptors - I really liked it but it wasn't that great of a film.
Crazy Eights - Lame. A few old actors. The film is about 6 friends who gather for another friends funeral. He left them a message to visit such and such place. They do. They remember they had a 8th friend that they had forgotten about after they discover her body. Her ghost kills them all one by one. When they were kids, they were sent away to this research facility. They all escaped, but they had to hide their 8th friend cause she had a bad leg. They told her they would be back for her. They did come back but she had already suffocated in her hiding spot by then. So they hid it, and buried it, and forgot about. That is pretty much it. The characters at typical film persona. There is a strong one, a brave one, a smart one, a artistic one, a crazy one, an angry one, blah, blah, blah. It was film well, though. I think by the time I saw this film I just wanted the horrorfest to end.
Rating: 3 raptors - it was a good film, it just didn't appeal to me.
