So my vacation is over and I am back to work. I am actually glad to be going back. I've said it before but I very little to do towards the end and I really just wanted to work. Anyway, Game weekend turned into game night; Saturday night to be more specific. To be honest, it was more of a turn out than I thought. 6 total including me. We played Munchkin til 7 in the morning...popped a few Munchkin cherries. What is awesome and kinda pervy is that every time a Munchkin cherry is popped the player always wants to go again... ;)
Anyway, I have been trying to play my video games since I started work here. I can never seem to get into it. Every time, I try to play a game, I almost immediately get bored and stop. Well, I tried all weekend to play something and alas, nada. But I have been forcing a few hours on Metroid Prime 2. I started so long ago and am going to try to finish with 100%. And them try to move on to FFXII. We'll see.
Vega is walking, I came home around noon Monday and there was Vega walking up to see me. She wasn't to happy to see me (probably cause I was gone for so long); but she is now warming up me again since I shut her out of my room at night. She isn't 100% but she is making a great recovery...Jason and I think that maybe she was hit a by a motorcycle, which would explain most of her symptoms, but in the end we will never know how she was hit and by what. Also, she lost some weight, which is a good sign of a fast recovery. (i.e. the less she eats the more time the body can put energy to fixing itself).

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End
First: I will not spoil any of it for anyone.
Second: IMHO, worthy to be the third in an new epic trilogy (in other words, I enjoyed it very much)
And C: best line in the film "NOBODY MOVE!!!... ...dropped me brain..." I could not stop laughing at this. Mainly for personal reasons but it was still unbelievably hilarious.
For a cat update: She stood up today...for a moment...still can't walk without assistance.
And for a self update: I start house/animal sitting tomorrow and game weekend also starts then. We'll see how well this will turn out.

Quiet contemplation
So our cat, Vega, came back from the vet on Monday. She was hit by a car on Friday night. I didn't even mention this because earlier that night I was over at my mom's discussing what to do about our 17 year old dog, who has cataracts, arthritis, tooth decay, intestinal disease, and a gum infection. Yet still a heart like a horse (for his age). Dealing with another potentially dieing animal in the same night was...well...I kinda block it out for a while. Anyway, my dog might be in a little pain (mostly due to the arthritis) but Vega got it a lot worse. Miraculously no broken bones; possibly a bruised bladder and/or kidney. The biggest problem is motor function. She can move each leg fine but it seems the muscles have difficultly. She can't stand, can't walk, can't even crawl. She is able to move around by embedding her claws into whatever and pulling herself forward. She can eat if hand feed. The doctor says it might be spinal shock but otherwise he doesn't what else he could do. I got very upset about this. This doctor didn't seem very good by some of the description I got from Becky. Anyway, we have deal with her being like this for at least a week. If she doesn't improve, we may have to take her to the vet hospital. I can't tell yet if she has neurological damage or just drugged (since I don't know how long the drugs last or when they were administered). For the moment we have an invalide cat...this is striking a cord with me...a bit of like "I'm not gonna take care of her" sort of feeling. I know it is because my dad suffered a stroke and living with a semi-paralyzed human being was hard enough. But this is a creature that doesn't have the facilities of doing things for itself. A feel ashamed for the feelings but not regret. I help take care of my dad and due to the neurological damage (and him just being him) he was rarely grateful, even mean sometimes (because he could do everything by himself, I get it). I don't it kinda scares me to take care of her. Not that fear anything that she might do or I might do...just that I don't want this to be a "forever til she dies" thing. Or a situation where we can't afford to continue caring for her and will have to put her down...

The Ex
This movie was funny. And surprisingly, not a chick flick. It is absolutely freaking hilarious...."Why would I give you my 'yes' ball?"
good film to bounce back from the Shrek debacle.
Starring Zack Braff (from Scrubs), Amanda Peet, and Jason Bateman.
But also starring the very funny Charles Grodin. He did the Beethoven movies but is probably most well known for the fugitive in Midnight Run.
not to mention a kid with an amazing (although, CGI'ed) talent of eating and swallowing a hamburger (bun and all) in one bite. Scary awesome.
Anyway, fun movie. Jason Bateman plays an awesome dick. You know the kind, soft and kind, very passive aggressive, not very smiley, but just an all-a-round dick.

Shrek the Third
Absolutely the worst movie ever. I don't say this lightly (as some of you know). First let's get down to the core of what made the other films so good. The journey. Everything that happened while on the journey was what made the story, the character development, plot. In Shrek 3 the journey is all of like 2 minutes (thanks to a wizard). Second, Character development. The only reason I can fathom as to why there was only one-line character development, is due to the fact that we the audience are suppose to know who these people are already. I'm not talking about Shrek, donkey, Fiona, etc. I'm talking about the newbies of the film. Merlin, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, Captain Hook, the Evil stepsister, etc, and wtf Evil enchanted trees, what the hell are these from.
The villains of our fairy tales play a big role in this film and they are merely glossed over as "the villains".
This movie was slapped together by people who don't care what the audience thinks of it. It was very lack lustered. The endings of these films are huge singing scenes, this film had the main actors credits rolling while donkey and puss'n boots sing against a black back drop. What the hell.
Not to mention the main villain of the story. Prince Charming. First he is pathetic actor and everyone hates him, then he is a leader of the villain army by smooth talking his way into their folds, then he is pathetic again when confronted by Shrek and gang. Barely any action. Just a whole bunch of whining on the screen of "I don't wanna" sort of mentality.
The only redeeming quality (which does very little in redeeming it) is the baby shower gang. Fiona and four of the main princesses of Disney. Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Cinderella, and Rapunzel. These characters are voiced by the former ladies of Saturday Night Live. This is where the movie should have gone. All the classic comedy tools were used here. Sleeping Beauty is a narcoleptic, who during one scene I could barely keep my pop from coming out my nose. She was sleeping and abruptly wakes her self up through snoring and pops up looking around and says "Who Dat" in as deep as a voice as she can. Cinderella has OCD about cleaning, which if you stretch it leads to her being a little crazy. She just rambles about cleaning and one the other princesses tells her to shut up and she repeats it to herself under breath, which is actually her saying it to her reflection in the floor, then tells to herself to stay out of it. Rapunzel thinks everyone is jealous of her hair (not much character development here since we see so little of her), and Snow White, who apparently gets the most camera time and lines. She is argumentative and snobby. And it all because she knows that she is "fairest one of all". Also, her baby shower present to Fiona is a live-in babysitter (a dwarf). When they girls get into the thick of it Snow White tears off her sleeves to reveal a heart tattoo on her arm with Dopey's name in it. And then with her beautiful signing voice she summons all woodland creatures to come to her beckon. The music changes to Led Zeppelin's - Immigrant Song making all the woodland creatures attack. These are classic comedy avenues that should have been explore more deeply. This could have been the greatest movie if this were the focus. But these wonderful ladies only comprise a total of about 15 minutes of the film. Sad, very sad indeed.
Overall, very bad movie. And let me tell you I had extremely low hopes for this film and it murdered each and everyone of them.

Timing...
Get this. So I am now (as of last Saturday) a full-time health councilor. Well, I think in concert of anxiousness of work, being up at 6am, and the very greasy calzone; I nearly puked. So I put in a sick day on Monday. Tuesday was great. I am getting some training and am almost on the verge of actually talking to people about their donations (which, I don't like calling people I don't know, but I'm sure the fake phone voice will come naturally). One other thing is that my Manager was out sick on Tuesday. So today, as I was walking in. I was stopped by the new supervisor in the Component Lab. Apparently, they asked if they could have me for one more week. My boss didn't see anything wrong with this so he allowed. This was Monday, but I didn't hear about til today. So, for the rest of the week, I'm working splits again. Won't be to bad. I kinda miss my night crew.
I gave my email out to a few and one for sure is down to join on game night. Get this, he is a veteran Munchkin player. I about died with laughter when he was telling me about some of the arguments. He's good guy, and I'm glad I could get him out for a game.
I got some vacation time coming up. The 25th through the 29th. I'm gonna be house sitting so I figure it is a perfect time to game. This will be in a mass email, but if you're curious. Just to make it easy for a start to game night, since I'm house sitting it would be easier for people to come to me. Munchkin will always be available, as well as, many "screaming-at-the-TV" trivia games. A little booze and pizza. A few board games for small crowds. And even some Warhammer 40K if people like, though I'm more partial to Necromunda. We can also explore the RPG option as well as some tournament style of fighting/first-person-shooter/points types of games. And can always end up with movies/TV, maybe a little stereo. Or if just 2 people show, hop onto the PC's to game a little. Since I'll be there all Friday through Monday (Tuesday I recover). I figure just to show up when time allows for you. Again this will go out in a mass email to the traditional gaming crowd. Remember though. I am house sitting Chuck the Truck and Kitty Kat's place. So if wish to see them, you won't cause they are not there. I am. You came to see me dammit.
Also, I know I said maintenance is taking place...it is going slow, I learn from the best (Omaha road construction). If no one shows for the gaming week. Then this is what I'll be doing when I am not crying, or drowning my sorrows in my gaming addiction.
Great news though, since HR forgot to give me my overtime from my last pay check, this pay check is gonna be huge. I can't wait. The reason this is great news is not just because it is a lot of money. Saturday, my computer melted. Okay, not the whole thing, but my video card did. It was hot, was midday, I was out at the movies, and my computer had been on for most of the day. When I finally figured out what might have been wrong I checked it out and sure enough. My video card practically had a whole melted/burned right through it. The reason the pay check it great is because I had to use one of the credit cards to pay for new video card. And since mine was like 2 years old; I had to buy an upgrade. All and all, my computer is fine now. It is only turned on during the wee hours of the night til we put in our AC's. And with this new schedule of the split, it works out fine for the moment.
My life merely a series of serendipitous events.

Midnight showing of Spider-man 3
Okay, I'm still remodeling the blog but I got talk about this so....you all shall suffer HAHAHAHA (head cocked back with hands on hips).
Spider-man 3
Was awesome but a lot of worries that came up before the film came true for the most part but was still done well enough. First, my biggest worry was Topher Grace as Venom. Now, he is a good actor, but I think he would have made a better Carnage than Venom. He is really good at playing the arrogant ass...But he did well. I was also concerned about Topher's size. Venom is suppose to be ominous in presence, but they did well with what they had. They played it off as a creature from space which is what the simbiote is.
Thomas Hayden Church is always good though. You can tellthat in some of sand scenes he acted through it and then they morphed him into a man of sand.
Green Goblin Jr. was pretty good but I have always had reservations about the actor for it.
Kirsten Dunst was actually top notch here. I was really impressed with her performance. And the constant interaction with upcoming supervillans i.e. Lizard, and Black Kat (I think Stacey turns to Black Kat...I can't be certain), was really cool.
But just like I thought, they crammed to much into 2 and half hours. After it got dark (in mood) the film really picked up though.
Overall, top notch for a third film. But that is what it is...a third film. And it seemed too much like a comic this time around. More of a filler for the next 2. I really hope they keep the same cast and crew.
